Lieutenant Alfred Erasmus Stuart Ommanney

Born on 5 March 1897 at Portsmouth, Alfred Erasmus Stuart Ommanney was the only son of Erasmus Austin Ommanney, who was in turn the only son of Admiral Sir Erasmus Ommanney (1814-1904).

He was educated at Charterhouse (1911-1915), from where he was commissioned into The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) as a Second Lieutenant. He was sent to France on 8th July 1916.

He was killed in action at age 19, 8 October 1916, near Guerdecourt, during an attack on German trenches. He was buried on the battlefield and is listed on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 5D.
